Featuring Artists from around the globe...whether living and working in the U.S. or in other countries.

Because art, by its nature, reflects immediate culture as well as the social and political insights of the artist, we feel it's important to  share work that  transcends national borders to allow our viewers insight into the rich artistic treasures of the global village.

Untitled (2004)

Gidey Gezahey Oil on Canvas 48" x 48"

Gidey Gezahey is the newest international artist to be added to our lists. We're very excited and pleased to present him to you here on Artndeed.com.

Gidey studied art at the Minilik School of Fine Art in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and later at the Comboni House in Cairo, Egypt.  Having lived in Eritrea for many years, he left unrest there, traveling on foot across the Sudan to Egypt where he settled for a time and continued his pursuit of art.  He says that he can only create when his spirit is positive...when that mood changes he rests his brush.  Each of his oil paintings are crafted from a place where the spirit and mind commune peacefully, bringing forth imagery that haunts the soul and delights the imagination.

Take a leisurely moment to surround yourself with the imagery that evolves from the mind of this Ethiopian artist who's been recognized in Egyptian and French art circles.  He was recently discovered in Charlottesville, Virginia where he now makes his home and is building a body of work in anticipation of his first major U.S. exhibition.

Dion Jacob

Added to our list of emerging artists in 2005, Artist Dion Jacob is versatile and creative. His strong use of color and form, combined with an inner eye focused on life's subtle symbols. translates to impressionable imagery on the canvas.

Dion Jacob  also goes by the name “Sendibaba Morathi” which means “wise leader.”  It’s a name given to him at a naming ceremony on December 27, 2002.  For those who follow African American tradition, that’s also “Kujichagulia” meaning day of self-determination...a day to reflect on how African Americans may shape their future economic and social success through concerted action.

Dion began his own determined journey into the arts after receiving a firming in painting from his father, Oriely Jacob, who has taught art in Trinidad and Tobago for the past 25 years.  It was that combination of nature and nurture...the pastoral and tropical setting of that island nation combined with patient, paternal guidance from which emerged a young man with a soulful vision and passion for visual and performing arts.

Dion’s work is richly figurative with impressionist influence.  He is one of the most promising and exciting artists that we have added to our collection and list.

"Flight" - J. Edsel

Acrylic on Board (acquired)
Former Ambassador  J. Edsel Edmunds has emerged as a prolific painter whose "abstract ice paintings" evoke dizzying imagery of melting rainbows.  In this original acrylic work "Flight" J. Edsel stirs the imagination to fancy a bird's flight caught for one moment in time.

His work was added to our collection in 2004.

"The Three Initiates"

1999 Ephrem Kouakou - Pigment on Paper

Artist Ephrem Kouakou, a native of the Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast),  has exhibited his work in the United States, France, Belgium and other nations.  His paintings are representative of his strong spiritual-cultural development in his village in West Africa.  His images are whimsical and evocative, filled with strong symbolism and characterizations.  They speak of religion, fertility, introspection of the soul, family, community, tradition and evolution.

Ephrem tells of having walked from his village to Algiers because of his strong calling to be an artist.  From Algiers he secured passage to France where he managed to study at the The Ecole des Beaux Arts.

Ephrem Kouakou’s work can be found in galleries in New York City and Washington, DC.   We added his work to our collection in 2003.
